STAMFORD— The Catholic Academy of Stamford (CAS) will celebrate its fifth year as the flagship Catholic School in Stamford, Conn. in the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Founded in 2017, The Catholic Academy of Stamford was formed after the Stamford-based schools of St. Cecilia, Holy Spirit, Our Lady Star of the Sea and St. Gabriel Middle School were combined, due to the decision to create one Pre-K through 8th-grade school in Stamford on one campus.
Despite the pandemic this past year, the CAS school community enjoyed an extraordinarily successful academic year with five-day in-person instruction.
“My husband and I reviewed the COVID-19 protocol for the teachers and students prior to the beginning of this school year, and we felt very safe and comfortable with the safety precautions that were put in place. It has been a real benefit for my kids to be in school 5 days a week this entire year. We were truly blessed with another great year at CAS, my kids felt safe and thrived academically and socially”, said Sarah Connors, a parent of a fourth-grader and eighth-grader at the school.
The school utilized its three outdoor class spaces most of the year whenever the weather permitted so the students were able to get extra time outdoors during class instruction, P.E. and recess. Word spread quickly throughout our local community about the school’s successful five-day in-person instruction and CAS experienced wait-listed classes this school year and for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year.
“CAS did a great job to make sure that both students and teachers felt safe coming to school every day. Between taking the temperatures of faculty and students each day to the deep cleaning that the school went through each evening and weekend, we all felt comfortable coming into school to work and learn,” said Jeanne Berberich, who teaches second grade at The Catholic Academy of Stamford. “All of the precautions and procedures that were followed kept us in school every day for the entire year, which is something that most schools in our area cannot attest to.”
Last summer was no time for rest for the faculty and staff at The Catholic Academy of Stamford, which used numerous resources to get the school prepared to reopen for its 2020-2021 scholastic year for full in-person instruction and constructed three outdoor class spaces. All the hard work paid off for students and families.
Danielle Jahn, a mother of a third-grader at the school appreciates the safety measures the school incorporated by the administration and staff. “I have been incredibly impressed with how everyone at CAS has handled this school year and felt safe sending my child in every day. The fact that these students have now had the benefit of a full in-person year is nothing short of amazing. We owe it all to the fearless dedication of our faculty and the strong faith and leadership of Miss Brady”.
Miss Patricia Brady, the head of school at The Catholic Academy of Stamford noted “We have been very blessed during this time of pandemic with the cooperation of our teachers, staff, parents, and especially our students who have worked together to ensure the health and safety of all in our school community. While this school year presented us with many challenges, we faced them together and with the ever-present spirit of the faith-filled community CAS is!”
Jamesha Valentine, a mother of a sixth-grader at the school expressed her gratitude that CAS held its students to a high standard despite the pandemic. “As a parent, there was so much uncertainty going into the 2020-2021 school year in so many areas, however, The Catholic Academy of Stamford has continued to keep the well-being of each student and family top priority. Keeping the environment safe for the students and not allowing them to use the pandemic as a crutch to JUST getting by. Each teacher and administrator encouraged and pushed the students to dig deep and pull out the best of themselves. Thank you, CAS you are truly a God Send.”
