St Matthew Knights of Columbus assist Malta House

Knights of Columbus St. Matthew Council 14360 continue to help local organizations in the Fairfield County community. On Saturday June 22 brother Knights went to Malta House in Norwalk to paint a room in their facility. The room is being renovated to become a new classroom for the mothers that reside in the house.

Council 14360 has been working with Malta House since 2009 with donations of supplies and maintenance work at their facility. In the past, the Knights painted rooms in the house performed yard work, assembled cribs/furniture and assisted Moms with moving when they leave Malta House.

“Our council enjoys the long relationship we have with an organization that is always helping women and children in need. If we can make their house feel like home, that is what we are trying to accomplish,” Past Grand Knight/Project chairperson George Ribellino said.

“Asking for help from our members and for them to respond so wonderfully with their willingness to assist with projects that are meaningful to people and groups that have a need, really shows what the Knights of Columbus are really about,” said Grand Knight Chris O’Connor.

Brothers Tim Horne and Jimmy Connors did prep work on the room and installed gates on the outside of the property in advance of the painting project.

“Everyone showed up eager to get the work underway, were willing to do whatever was needed to accomplish the task at hand and did so with wonderful energy and still keep a sense of camaraderie going the entire time it took to finish the job. I am so proud of how members of our council responded to this project,” O’Connor added.

Malta House relies heavily on volunteers and the demanding work of others to help serve the mother and children. The Men of the St Matthew Knights of Columbus are amazing. We can never thank them enough, said Malta House Director of Development, Danielle LeBrando.

The council plans to stay busy over the summer by assisting St Matthew Parish and All Saints Catholic School with projects. “Our councils love putting our faith in action by honoring the legacy of our founder Blessed Michael McGivney,” said Ribellino.

Malta House promotes the dignity of God-given life by providing a nurturing home environment, support services and independent living skills to pregnant and parenting mothers of all faiths and their children.

Mothers at Malta House receive counseling, financial education, and parental development followed by transitional and post-residential support. For more information, please go to maltahouse.org.
